This is a picture of our ice cube melting experiment.
We learned that heat molecules travel to colder molecules. - Sean

Hot molecules move fast and cold molecules move slow.- Ethan E.

When water gets hot enough, it starts to steam and it boils because the molecules are moving fast.- Najlah, Robert, and Khelis

If you have 2 cups of the same temperature water and combine it, the temperature stays the same.- Destiny

If you have 2 beakers of different temperature water and combine them, the temperature will be in between the 2 temperatures.- Amare

If there is a small surface area, heat that is inside the cup will stay hot longer because the all the molecules are trying to get out and it will take time because it is not wide.- Madison and Julius

If there is a lot of surface area the molecules can get out faster because there is a wide space.  The liquid that is inside will get colder.- Aeisha and Tomi

If you want something to stay hot or warm, you should use the best insulator.- Alaya

An insulator is a material that you use to cover the cup so the drink can stay hot.  Insulators stop the hot molecules from traveling.- Eva, Geah, and Elijah M.

When you start with an  ice cube and you don't want it to melt, you can use an insulator.  The insulator will block the heat from coming inside the cold ice cube.- Elisabeth and Kerrisa

Answer our question in the comments section.  What do you know about heat?

Way to fill your brains with scientific knowledge, Third Graders!

Amare, if you mix a hot liquid with a cold liquid, will the new temperature be *exactly* in the middle of the two temperatures, or just somewhere in between? I'm curious about that and maybe you are too.
